Nice one Del 👍

Shall give this a go as PMR has much quietened in my area since lock-down.
(Retail parks and lorry bays near me used to obliterate 446!)

Pretty much useless unless you get onto high ground. But even then the usual pattern happens, homebase stations can't hear one another only the hilltoppers.

Nice idea though.

Unless there a lift on, then may be interesting or stations on pmr running on a external antenna or using opened up 70cm radios .

Even with people running homebrew antennas and up to 50w still had the same issues from home based stations. Just doesn't work that great up that high on UHF. Over the past couple of years I've experienced it on the southern PMR nets. Good fun but only hilltoppers had any decent success.

Our local net in bristol is active with a fair few radio users but the 446 channels are used for local construction workers during day even though the covid 19 lock down so they have been messing it up so only a late afternoon & evening is open and clear. Get up high because hight is always might with a well tuned antenna for the 446 channel 8 frequency. In my opinion we need to spread the word as far as possible get more radio users active on the radios again as limited users are currently active so spread the word share on social media tell you mates, family, co-workers, keep on scanning the waves good luck and 73's

I tend to keep a scanning watch on 1-8 channels on one handheld and 1-16 on another and I’ve just got a CRT Space U Mobil for the car when I get time to fit it and see I can hear anyone apart from the local council tip on channel 7.

I did have a system running where PMR was linked to my computer then to a PMR group over at Nottingham on Zello. I made a box with a radio. Anyone local to my radio could speak to someone in Nottingham who was on local PMR there via the box to Zello and back out on PMR. Worked well. Might try set it up again. Maybe use a mobile radio with a fan on the back so dont burn the finals out.

I still have copies of the circuit on EasyEDA using the Arduino. Took me ages to work it all out. Need to look at it again to remember how its all connected.

Hi Andy,

It's all a bit luck of the draw I'm afraid, I too called out for several weeks and got nothing in my area.
However I've had a listen on the webSDR receivers and heard some good nets in the Manchester area so people are managing.

Might be worth trying a shout now and then just in case, (I still do and did tonight).
You'd be surprised how many people just listen, get nothing so give up..... could've been a dozen or more people on frequency all 'just listening' and no one would know they were there! Wink

All the best,
Victor

Found it! in the junk box, think something missing. Still looks a nightmare, think should rebuild it from scratch.
Got Bluetooth and battery system so isolated from PC to stop.interfence.
Maybe a 100W mobile set up on PMR do the trick..😋
Should work with CB also.
