Hi folks,
I'm a bit curious as most of the cb related stuff I've been coming across on YouTube etc has been talking about SSB. If I come to the UK with my standard Albrecht 6110e multimode radio am I likely to get any sane contacts on the standard UK 40 fm channels, or the Euro 40 AM/FM?

Or would I be better off bringing something like a 6900n along?

Thanks!

I would say your best bet for making contacts locally would be the UK40 FM CH19 27.78125 but I would bring the 6900 as you will also find people on SSB at times and the extra power from an export set will be a big help.
If you look at the Nets &Skeds section of the site you will see many radio groups listed with the time and frequency they use, hopefully, there is something in the areas you are visiting but if not as I previously mentioned UK40 will be your best bet I would think.

UK Ch19 is where you'll find most activity. It's almost like people in this country only have CBs with one single channel.

And indeed this is how it turned out - I parked up one night at Lymm, and there was the usual mix of relatively sane conversation and wallies / dj's on the 19,
and then when I was waiting for my tip to open in Edinburgh I listened to a long conversation about a lost parrot of all things Laughing

One thing that was a bit surprising was that people were QSO'ing on the 19 rather than taking it elsewhere, but I suppose as the level of useage is pretty low that isn't a problem.

I'd posted earlier asking about antenna solutions for the truck, and feel a bit stupid as I'd completely failed to notice DAF's own original equipment CB antenna on the back of the cab. I found the connector behing the blanking panel abouve the tacho head. Unfortunately the SWR was about 5 (didn't appear to be adjustable) so I couldn't join in, just listen.... not that I know anything about how to catch escaped parrots anyway....
