Hi Adam,
Welcome to Charlie Tango.
Shouldn't take long to get your callsign, Gary issues most days. (Probably missed him today though.)
PMR and CB contacts are much dependant on your location and circumstances. Some areas are busy and others a little quieter, from the looks of the callsign list there should be some breakers in your area. PMR is really for short distant contacts, typical walkie talkie stuff, camping, kids, etc. but get yourself up somewhere high you might receive more. Typical contact calling is made on channel 8, (446.09735MHz), and you'll probably hear calls in the evening or Sunday nights. Still depends though, I call and listen most Sundays with no luck so far, but some get good longer distance contacts.
As for CB, same thing really. Big high up antenna is going to get you more results on a homebase or if you can, go mobile in a car, go find your highest local spot and have a listen or shout out. FM has activity on both UK and EU frequencies, some like to use sideband modes so that depends on what type of radio you have.
Sounds like a lot of info there, but believe me, this is just an intro!
You're bound to get more info browsing around the forum as well as other internet sources. We have a lot of helpful members here so fire away if you've got any questions.
Whew! Took me a bit of time for that welcome and question answer
