| What antennas do you guys use because i've heard the fibreglass ones don't attract much attention like the metal ones do?
I have a couple of cb police round here and if there is a flicker on their tv or radio they are out like a tv bloody detector van and the wife doesn't want the aggro.
I've seen a few that have good reviews i.e
Antron 99 Imax 2000 Thunderpole 5
I don't mind hearing about other antennas but there is nothing like shouting i've got a cb.
Thanks | |

| Because i live in a very exposed place up here on the Western isles i just made a dipole up in the loft which has worked very well for me, of course you could make one up outside they are harder to spot by nosey neighbours. | |

This neighbour knew i had a cb even though there was no antenna outside and i had headphones, how the hell she knew i will never know. I think she has direct communication with the underworld I will try one outside and see what happens but yeah that is a good idea, a stealth antenna

A good stealth aerial (If you have plastic guttering and downspouts) is a T2LT tucked behind the downspout

| You are very unlikey to interfere with a modern TV, it's more likely to be the other way round now, all the household electrical devices splatter crap all over the HF spectrum. Providing your station is legal do what you want there's nothing anyone can do to stop you enjoying the hobby! Good luck.

| Freeview/sat/cable - lcd/led/oled etc should all be away from TVi and as Gary said it more likely to be the other way arround these days. One of the biggest killer to us is led spot lights over garages and gardens etc. I sit with 5lb static 24/7 but I live next door to a nursing home and across the road from a secondary school. My antenna is a Gainmaster 5/8 on the chimney with 30-40 watts depending what rig I am on on FM. | |

| I tried a homebrew coax inverted v dipole in my loft, but I couldn't get the swr down. I've since switched it round to being horizontal and, fingers crossed, it seems to be working ok and, best of all, it only cost about £5 | |

| I'm having to get a dipole for the attic due to the amount of aggravation the wife received last time. She says i'm not going through that again. The lady that gave us grief last time lives up the road and our next door neighbours daughter just loves to give us grief so its indoor antenna only. I'm not going to argue with the wife i would rather take on a lion. i know some would agree the hassle with the misses isn't worth it. Thanks to everyone that replied. | |

| Dipole will only be of any use for DXing. For local you need a vertical antenna. A mobile antenna and using four 9ft long wires attached to the mount will work OK. | |

I use to dx in the eighties so the dipole will come in handy. I also have a sirio 5000 pl and that will do for local contacts. Thanks though Northern Crusader
