Antron 99 is up on 12ft steel poles and about 2 sections of it are above the house.radio is a ss9900 all brand new.ive tried turning everything electrical off in the house but makes no difference.Any ideas please or do I just need to put the aerial even higher?? Thanks 👍👍👍

Answer to first question is 100% No,
Answer to second question, it's most probably something that is in your area ie: a neighbor's crap cheap Chinese chargers or a neighbor's WiFi, TBH it could be anything electrical or any other modern tech that's about ,sorry mate but you will have to put up with it sometimes it a part of radio problems now days ,you could try and put the antenna higher it might help ,another thing A99 are known for dragging in a lot of noise if there is noise out there an A99 will find it ,I use to use one myself still have it actually as a spare but I change it for a Gainmaster and my noise drop but if you live in a town there's no getting away from interference.

Could it be that I am
Only 50 metres from a private airport and the planes fly directly over my house? I can only shoot so many of them down🤣🤣soon as weathers better I am going to take it down as I think I only tightened the sections hand tight.....could this be the problem??? The swr is fine

You could try that ,but as you said the SWR is OK and the old saying is "if in broke don't try to mend it" LOL but it might be worth it just to make sure and also tape up(weather proof the joins) with amalgamation tape just for peace of mind, dont suppose living near a private airport helps either,anyway good luck.

@Andybron

Can you get the aerial further away from the house? I used to get s7-9+ of noise with the aerial mounted on the house, I put it on the garage 20 foot away and it dropped to s1. I can only assume the noise is carried along the mains wires, even if your house is not making any QRM, the neighbours could be producing shed loads of it. The only way is to get as far away from any mains wiring as you can.

From my own experience, getting the antenna a few feet more away from the house can make a big difference. I use an Ampro whip on my garden fence. It started off about 10 feet from the back wall of my house, S7 QRM constantly. I tested it about 30 feet away from the back of my house and it is still S3 but at least I can hear and work something.

The other thing I am going to do is try a horizontal antenna for DX working - the "conventional wisdom" is that most domestic noise is vertically-polarized. I have never seen anything which backs this up properly, but it will be easy enough to test. I will be putting my Gainmaster copy up horizontally at about 15 feet, running away from the house to put it in the "null" and we will see what happens.
