They might be more expensive but I've found the Grant 2 Premium for instance to be very well built compared to the very popular CRT9900 of which I've had 3 of and they're no where near as good. You do get what you pay for although at £270 for the Grant 2 Premium they are verging on a good 2nd hand Yaesu 817nd all band range

I have a new MC Kinley since 2 weeks now. It is indeed a very well build radio with big knobs and it sounds fantastic on receive on SSB and AM. FM sounds OK but not as good as my JFK II. I do find it a better performer than my President Jackson II. The menu is a bit 'getting used to'....for example if you want to change the mike gain you need to push 5 times a button to get there, reading the manual helps. I removed the tiny part of foam that sits in front of the electret cell in the microphone, and now the original microphone sounds really good after I gave it a bit more FM deviation and a bit more ALC for SSB. I payed 277 euros delivered at my front door. I dont regret buying it.

Which pot did you adjust for the FM deviation?
And did your find that the SSB power was low? Mines only doing about 8 Watts on SSB.

If you take off the top cover, the front of the radio towards you, +/- 2 cm above the speaker you will see a elco sitting close to a little black box and on the right lower corner of that black box is the pot for FM dev. The printing on the board is very tiny, i can not read the white printed text. I also gave it a bit more ALC for SSB, with a good whistle in the mike the external power meter swings between 10 and 12W and the audio is not distorted, not overdriven. The pot for ALC on SSB is on the back of the radio, two pots close together in the center of the print....that says ALC and is well readable.

mine has no sticker on it but on that spot there is a letter V (vink, checked mark) with a marker.....last letter is letter H I think. No idea, I did not touch that pot.

I noticed one nearer the front marked AMH which I presume is AM High power so maybe the pot in question is FMH, for FM High power or SSBH for SSB high power?
