Hello All.

Hoping someone may have an idea whats wrong. The radio is an SS6900N. The problem started a few weeks ago. First on the odd channel everything would go dead, no sound nothing on the meter, flash the mike and it came back to life,,, checked swr was running around the 1:2 1:4 top to bottom,, this got worse with happening on more channels, Now its reached the point where theres nothing on any channel and if I flash the mike everything goes red and it screams at me.
Ive checked the antenna for shorts, continuity and wet ingress, nothing all seems ok, same with the coax...

Im starting to think the radio is at fault,,,, any ideas anyone.

Hello Tom,

I'm glad you found your way in!!

It certainly sounds like a radio fault but there are a couple of things that I would be tempted to do.

Firstly the 6900n is a fairly powerful radio is your power supply up to the job and working alright? I believe they have a warning for that to protect the radio. So check that out.

The other is if you have the programming cable and software you could try resetting the radio, I've done this a few times with my CRE-8900 to sort out quirky behaviour.

If it's still under guarantee I would talk to your supplier before trying a reset.

73's Gary.

Hello Tom,

In which case I would definitely talk to Knights. If it turns out to be something simple let us know for future reference. Good luck!

The shop is shut. Check if they would take it in via a parcel courier.

Nice one Tom!

These modern radios are very software driven so this kind of stuff does happen. I'm glad it's sorted!!

Oh no! They do have a couple of warnings one for voltage possibly current also I'm not sure and SWR so before you pull the antenna down you might want to double check both.

Do let us know how this goes your experiences could be invaluable to others in the future!

Ive checked v/a that's all ok the swr is another story, it keeps changing anything from 1:1 to 3+ changed the pl295 and it changed again,,,,, im starting to wonder if somehow the coax is breaking up, or are the plugs dodgy, both came from flea bay. Earlier this evening I was having a listen and found a station I could hear well but very quiet and nothing on the meter, flicked around and signal strength was the same on every channel. The meter does move I wont say works as it seems normal in Tx am and ssb but nowt in Rx.
Any idea where I can get coax with a woven screen not wrapped.
