Moonraker Atlas Quiet/Low Audio Fix, Easy Mic Mod - No Software, soldering or over complicated methods

Moonraker Atlas Quiet Audio Fix - Easy Microphone Mod and Increased Audio Deviation Instructions - Quiet Audio Fix - No Technical Experience or Programming Required

Doing this mod will invalidate your microphone warranty - do at your own risk

The grill on the mic as standard is purely for show. The grill is nowhere near the mic capsule and the standard grill holes are blocked/tiny.

This is the reason for quiet/muffled audio. It's not the radio causing this. It's the poorly designed microphone and FM deviation set to minimum as standard. Here is the fix.

1. Gently remove front grill of mic
2. Use a drill to place a hole in the top right corner  where there isn't one.
3. Check no obstruction to small hole behind the grill
4. Replace grill
5. Turn radio off
6. Hold BAND button while turning radio on
7. Change audio deviation to 3
8. Press Power to confirm
9. Turn radio off then on
10. ENJOY

You'll notice that you don't need to hold the mic close to your mouth, audio won't be muffled or compromised. Ideally the mic would be replaced with a much better quality one. However, these quick adjustments do make a big difference and prevent spending on a new microphone if you would prefer not to.

These standard microphones are terrible, cheap and zero thought has gone into the design or production. For the price of the radio, I suppose it's to be expected.the mic does the radio absolutely no favours at all.

You can buy an adapter (click here) so you can use your favourite microphone with the radio but finding one in the UK is difficult.  Nevada USA sell them but shipping is silly money.
